Profile of Miyagi Prefecture
Miyagi Prefecture is situated in the southeastern part of the Tohoku region, about 350 kilometers from metropolitan Tokyo. Miyagi is bordered by the prefectures of Akita and Yamagata on the west, Fukushima on the south and Iwate on the north. Relative to other prefectures in the Tohoku region, Miyagi enjoys a warm, pleasant climate year ’round, thanks to the influence of the Pacific Ocean just to the east. In fact, winters are comparatively mild, with little snowfall.

It takes about an hour and thirty-six minutes to reach Miyagi’s capital city, Sendai, via the Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo Station. Additionally, there are eight international air routes to and from Sendai Airport, plus domestic flights linking Miyagi Prefecture to major cities around the nation.
