The Obara onsen looks out over a deep gorge along the upper reaches of the Shiroishi River. It's here that you'll find four hot springs in a quiet resort stretching across 1.5 kilometers of countryside. Visitors enjoy the spring greenery and the crimson-tinged foliage of autumn, which contrasts beautifully with the sculpted rock walls of the gorge. The spring water is known for its benefits in the treatment of eye diseases, stomach and intestinal disorders, female disorders and bruises.
The hotel features a huge, open-air bath nestled in a quiet mountain area near a ridge overlooking the clear streams of the Shiroishi River. This is truly one of the southern Zao Mountain Range's most outstanding resorts. The fine spa water has no unpleasant peculiarities and is very gentle to the skin. This all-natural hot spring features no artificial filtration, heating, recycling or other processing. The difference is apparent the moment one enters the water.
This hot spring deep in a forest in the Shiroishi River valley at the foot of the Minami Zao mountains has an 800-year history. You can enjoy great views from our popular grand bath on the first floor (Keikoku no Yu), an outdoor bath, and an open-air bath on the seventh floor.
