(Kyu-Ishinomaki Harisutosu Seikyokai Kyokaido)Ishinomaki's First Saint John the Evangelist Orthodox Church 3-18 Nakaze, Ishinomaki-shi This is Japan's oldest wooden church building. The Byzantine-style dome architecture was constructed using the Japanese method of octagonal temple construction. There is a replica iconostasis and grape vine engravings in the sanctuary on the second floor, and the wood-grain painting technique can be seen on the handrails. In the Meiji Period (1880). Removed and reconstructed in 1980.
