Natural Scenery (Kurikomayama) Name Mt. Kurikoma Location Expands across Miyagi, Iwate, Akita Prefectures Description Konide-type volcano with conical mountain foot; this volcano is rich with clusters of alpine flora as well as virgin forests. The foot of this inactive volcano is shaped like a circular cone and is located almost in the center of the Tohoku region. This mountain has magnificent views and from the top you can see Mt. Gassan, the Chokaisan Mountains, the Zao Mountain Range, Komagatake, the Hayachine Mountains, and even as far as the Pacific Ocean. About 150 kinds of alpine plants grow at the base of the mountain, creating wonderful flowerbeds. It is designated as a quasi-national park.
